Game On! UPDATED - LOTS OF DESTRUCTION PHOTOS

We have officially started.  No more of the homeowner's own demo.  The pros came in starting this morning.  I had asked, at last Friday's Architect/GC/Owner's meeting that the GC take photos of the demolition as much as possible to allow me to see what was happening.

Ask and ye shall receive.  Here is the kitchen, minus a kitchen (except the Sub-Zero fridge we are keeping).  Stuff should start getting dramatic soon!

That fridge wall will move back about 3 feet.  The wall on the right side of the photo will go away.  Skylights will replace those two fluorescent fixtures.  And the full bath in the distance will shrink to a powder room, losing about 3 feet of space as well.

UPDATE:  I went over to the house to take a few more photos (and attend to my compost pile):

Existing 3rd bath, sans toilet, sink and vanity.

Same from a different angle.

Former laundry room with all cabinets, including uppers, removed.  Compare here, at this link.

Washed out shot of the former kitchen.  The back right corner will be mud room.  The left side will be counters and part of the new kitchen.

3rd bathroom fixtures in their current resting space.  Margot's art on the wall to be removed.  Dead aerobed in the background.  Laundry room upper cabinets to the right.

Fridge, stove, and cabinets removed.  To the right of the door on the far left (which leads to the basement), there will be an opening leading to the mud/laundry room.

Old kitchen sink and dishwasher removed.  We still don't know where the switch for the disposal went.

Removal of the old shop-style fluorescent fixtures.  They won't return.

The old duct work to the stove exhaust.  That wall will go, so we'll have a new duct to handle the 1400cfm blower that I'm eyeballing.

Acouple of shots of the layers and layers of flooring in the kitchen.  To the left, the original plywood subfloor.  On top of that, the black mastic (yeah! no asbestos!!!) which fastened those glorious yellow faux marble tiles.  On top of that, a paperboard underlayment.  Glue on top of that to hold down the brick tiles that were existing.

Kitchen in its new / temporary home . . . my garage.  Seen left, the double stove (one of two, making quad stoves).

Kitchen cabinets in their holding area until their next home . . ..

  1. Well, if you consider we closed on May 30 . . . . but once started, indeed. No waste. The wall will stay up until the new support beam is put in place. So, probably not for several days to a week or more.
